Make friend
One evening, when we are all confined to our rooms because of the curfew imposed by the military patrolling the city, Naya wants to play with me and her friends. She takes out a bottle of vodka. The three floozies start playing a game of truth or dare. They try to get me drunk to get compromising information. I'm smarter than they are. I empty most of the drinks into the poor pot of the green plant that is having its roots disinfected.
They are quite tipsy and so am I. Things start to go wrong. Clarissa admits that her first time was a mess. Petunia shows her breasts to the window. Naya sings Britney Spears. It's my turn. I've used up my truth credit. So I have to do something. I pull out a piece of paper. "Kiss one of the people participating in this game". The girls laugh. I confessed shortly before that I had never kissed anyone. Naya offers to make my first kiss perfect and at least with a pretty girl. We kiss to the clucking of woodcocks.
— You're not doing too bad for a first time grunge. Naya doesn't care about me.
The four of us end the evening drunk and dead on the floor. We have a terrible headache the next morning. Long live the sunglasses as soon as we wake up. Mélia, Damien and Blaise keep asking us about our common migraine. Naya and I are even more unbearable than usual.
They are so insistent that I make up a lie to keep the peace. We watched a horror film on the sly and as a result we had nightmares all night and didn't sleep. Damien calls us idiots for watching such films under the circumstances. Blaise laughs at our sissiness. Mélia bites her lip. She knows that for me horror films are the equivalent of comedy films and that I scream with happiness when the bimbo is murdered. She knows I'm lying. She knows I won't say anything, even if she tortures me.
With all her curfew bullshit, Sarah hardly sees her brother anymore. They're fused, they suffer. While I'm working on my lessons with Melia, Sarah bursts into tears. She misses her brother too much. I love Sarah very much, her pain touches me. I know how hard it is to be away from someone you love. Melia and I look at each other and decide what to do. I go out to ask Naya and my other roommates if they'll let Damien and Alex stay in our room for the night. Alex is the fourth roommate of our three boy friends. The girls happily accept the idea of a little testosterone. We'll manage. It's decided. So I head out to find the boys in exfiltration mission mode.
I take my gun and knife in case I run into a creature. I climb onto the roof. The door to the roof is just locked. I pick the lock. Once I'm up, I leap up and land on the other roof. I get down on the ground. So that the military searchlights on the ground don't see me. I wait a few minutes and then head for the boys' door. New lock. I enter the building. In stealth mode, I look for our friends' room. Most of the guys are asleep, which suits me. Naya has explained to me where our mates are. I'm at their door.264. I knock and look around. It's Damien, wearing just a pair of pyjama bottoms, who opens the door. Surprised, he grabs me and drags me inside to yell at me. I don't give him time to open my mouth.
— Sarah is really not well. I come to get Blaise. I know how to get past the military surveillance. I've snuck out of the house so many times I used to drive my grandfather crazy. If you want, I'll guide you. If not, good night until tomorrow, but I'm still kidnapping Blaise, that's not negotiable.
Blaise and Thibaut's laughter stops Damien's moralizing. He abandons all attempts at education. Alex ends up deciding to stay there, but will cover his mates. So I make my way back with the guys. Locking the doors behind me. My mates follow somewhat amused by my burglary skills. I think the whole third floor of the women's dormitory understands that Blaise is there at Sarah's shout.
The three boys are very much appreciated and their presence reassures the girls a little. Damien gives me a kiss on the forehead to thank me for allowing him to spend the night with his girlfriend. Thibault takes my bed in the end. Blaise shares a room with five girls. He sleeps with Sarah. I sleep with Mélia.
I make it a habit once a week to pick up the boys from their dormitory. Never on the same day, never at the same time. The other inhabitants of their dormitory get used to my presence. Blaise and Thibaut tease me when I arrive at their shower time. They think I did it on purpose to surprise the boys in their underwear. If they only knew how little I care. I let them say it. To annoy them, I pretend to rave about Musclor's body. Blaise is getting to know me and quickly detects the lie.
He retaliates by carrying me like a sack of potatoes on his shoulders around the dormitory. I pretend to try and take his towel off. I could get free and steal his last protection easily. I prefer to laugh and act like a frightened virgin, absolutely not credible. The exhausted face of our childishness of Maltez is to die of laughter. Once in their room, Thibaut blindfolds me with a scarf while they get dressed. I play Blindman's buff for fun. I use their voices to find them and keep bugging them by trying to tickle them.
Blaise and Thibaut take the opportunity to kiss my hair or give me a big hug. Damien takes the risk of tickling me. Even blindfolded, I make him suffer serious reprisals. He's on the ground, knocked down by guillotines on his feet. Alex is called in to rescue him. Blaise and Thibaut are not inclined to help their buddy, they are in full laughter at my triumphant air.
I take out my bribe for Alex, to keep him quiet about my weekly kidnappings. Praline cookies made in cooking class. Alex is becoming my buddy too. A friendship based on his stomach and some discussions about growing illicit tomato plants on my dorm roof.
On the way to lead my escapees to their new prison for the night, I take Blaise aside. I sense something in Sarah and Fleur. I want to see if Blaise is aware of his sister's secret and if, as Sarah fears, he has a problem with it. I soon realise that Blaise has known about it for a long time and doesn't give a damn. His sister is his little princess, she will always be, even if her soul mate is another princess. So I suggest that he and Sarah talk about it openly. Her little darling is scared to death to admit it. She has panic attacks when anyone other than her flatmates or me sees a tender gesture between her and Fleur. Blaise promises me to go and calm down our favourite little coward.
I am horribly bored at night. I don't like to be locked up. Like a wild animal in a cage, I go round and round. I exasperate Naya and my two other roommates. Unable to isolate myself as I want by running away to the stables, I squat in my sister's room. Her roommates are funny. Although their world is not mine, I get on very well with them. They are patient, gentle and deeply kind. Their company somewhat soothes my hyperactivity, as well as the presence of my twin.
Tonight they decided to teach me the cult songs and choreographies of their favourite boy-bands. Karaoke and dance machine night. We are breaking the ears of the whole dormitory. I'm in the middle of choreographing when Naya comes in. She opens her eyes wide at my movements. I don't give up and finish my routine.
My four accomplices in crime also continue their choreography with great seriousness. We get tangled up and end up on the floor on top of each other in a contagious laugh. We wring a sigh and above all a smile of amusement from Naya. I really love my four Kawai. I am affectionate with them. A bit like a big sister. Like with my cousin.
Naya had come to turn down the volume a bit, as the floor manager. She scolds us gently. Naya is quite tolerant of the Kawais. She likes them, especially Sarah and Melia. Several times she has given them advice on what to wear or how to do their make-up or use the right accessories.
I'm so bored that I even agreed to a makeover with a parade of different proposals. A Saturday spent in the hands of the tenants of room 330 and room 326, with the boys and a few other girls from the dormitory as judges. Seven horrible dresses, seven make-ups, seven hairstyles submitted to the public vote. My only consolation was Blaise's arm to parade around when Naya made me wear heels. A great comedy show for the whole floor, especially when Mélia dressed me up as a sour candy.
Mélia takes tons of pictures. Fleur, who is good at drawing, illustrates certain moments. Mélia and I make a sort of joint diary for our cousin, as she did for us. We want to allow her to share our moments. The whole gang participates in this diary.
Blaise and Thibaut have fun making comments. Naya and her two friends give fashion advice to our baby. Fleur, Sarah and Lilou add cute pictures of kittens and other things. Maltez just makes fun of my mother hen side with my little flea, so different from my everyday character. He still participates in the newspaper with a so-called adult point of view.
Over the next few months, Richard keeps us informed of what he finds out about the creatures. So far, not much, apart from the fact that something really bad is happening. The armies are training too hard, it looks like a war is brewing. Richard and a few of his friends buy an estate and gradually turn it into a fortress. Other acquaintances do the same in several places around the city. For the time being, they look like a bunch of lunatics. The situation seems to be under control. No new attacks are reported until the end of the school year.
