« Normality », « abnormality », « rules », « rejection of rules ». Six words. Four ideas. Most people consider them opposites, but I see : « Normality is a rule. I practice the rejection of rules. So, I am abnormal. »

Yes, that’s twisted. But, I’m insane ! Well, that’s what our society, today, thinks. I like to dance in the street. I like to be lonely. I like to believe in magic, in mad things. I love to do exactly the opposite of what people expect to me to do.

But according to our society, I have to be calm in public. I have to be impassive. I have to hide my emotions. I have to be sociable, I have to be a realist. And above all, I have to do what the rules say.

I think that I should be able to cry when I see a beautiful thing without being afraid of judgement. I should be able to show my happiness to the world. If you’re jealous because you’re unhappy, that’s your problem.

I think that there are two sorts of rules : Legal rules and unspoken rules.

Most legal rules are useful, like traffic laws. I don’t deny them.

I deny unspoken rules. Society’s rules. They prevent us from being ourselves !

If you want to judge me, well, judge me ! You know what ? I don’t care about what you think. I know who I am. My friends know who I am. My family knows who I am. That’s enough for me.

You think I’m crazy ? You’re right. But that’s better than not being myself, no ?

Aristote said : « There is no genius without a touch of madness. » 

Oscar Wilde said : « The madnesses are the only things which we never regret. »

And yet, they both were great men . Yes. These two great men said that madness is a good thing.

I just have one advice. Be the writer of your own story. Don’t let our society be the hand that writes the chapters of your life”. Love. Cry. Laugh. Travel the world and explore your emotions Find who you truly are. Live your life. And above all, be crazy !

J'ai écris ce discours en anglais, dans le cadre d 'un devoir. Il fallait écrire un discours sur le sujet que l'on voulait, alors j'ai décidé de m'inspirer du texte du chapitre précédent. Je suis désolée de ne pas pouvoir le traduire, mais cela enlèverait tout le charme des mots...
